Zirkusplatz Secondary School, Switzerland
When rebuilding the park and school complex, the construction team quickly had to make the saw-tooth roof impermeable to protect it from the weather. The solution was pre-confectioned oversized Majcoat 350 covers.

Say hello to the new secondary school building
A school and park complex is being erected in the Lucerne town of Sursee on the site of a former car park, also known as the Circus Square. A car park with a total of 100 parking spaces is additionally being built.
A large saw-tooth roof had to be made impermeable within a very short period of time
A saw-tooth roof provides a lot of indirect light in the classrooms. This unusual roof was also the reason why Hecht Holzbau decided to use a pre-confectioned Majcoat 350. The greatest challenge that Thomas Bürli, a project manager at Hecht Holzbau, and his team faced was having to ensure the impermeability of the roof as fast as possible to protect it against the weather. This was due to the fact that the assembly work was carried out in spring, when unpredictable weather changes are common. Thomas Bürli says:
«Thanks to the appr. 7 pre-confectioned covers, 6.6 m x 43 m each, the assembly work was a total success. We didn’t need to waste any time putting up any temporary tarpaulins.»
Thanks to the pre-confectioned covers, we were able to quickly protect the entire roof after straightening. He also says that the pre-confectioned Majcoat 350 has a positive effect on the cost. According to his own calculations, the extra cost of having items pre-confectioned is, in most cases, lower than welding on site. Another advantage is that welding during pre-production yields a cleaner result and guarantees 100% penetration during the weld.
The saw-tooth roof is equipped with solar panels.
Young people involved in rebuilding the park
Sursee Council gave the town’s young people in their third year of secondary school the opportunity to participate actively in the creation of a 900-square-metre outdoor area. A percent-for-art project is also being created here.
